Describe the environment at Indeed Flex in three words
Collaborative, Adaptable, Hard Working
Can you tell us a little bit more about your day-to-day role?
As a Compliance Officer at Indeed Flex, I ensure adherence to regulations and maintain a safe working environment for Flexers. This includes reviewing and addressing Flexer complaints daily to ensure compliance and prevent escalation, while addressing these within the required SLA’s.
My role requires me to remain informed and monitor legislative and/and industry changes that may require us to introduce new processes or update our existing processes, policies, handbook and terms. I am able to utilize resources from industry associations to stay up to date with, and address. compliance queries.
What is the favorite part of your typical workday?
My favorite part of my workday would be picking up cases and solving issues for Flexers. I enjoy problem resolution and it’s one of my strengths, which allows me to find enjoyment. So, this typical workday involves liaising with specific departments to find an all-round solution that works for our client(s) and the Flexer(s). This can be challenging and complex but can feel rewarding when the desired outcome is accomplished!
I also enjoy the opportunity to constantly collaborate and liaise cross-functionally. No day is the same in Compliance and, therefore, my role expands into different departments depending on what I am working on. This provides the opportunity to meet with colleagues I wouldn’t normally have shared work with, but allows me to learn and understand different moving parts of the business and how we all contribute to the common goal of Flex. Having this understanding allows me to approach issues with more confidence and perspective.
I am a point of contact within the business for Compliance queries, even the smallest ones, and being able to advise on the best compliance practices ensures that the company adheres to legal and ethical standards, which helps in maintaining a fair and transparent business environment. Knowing that my work contributes to the ethical operations of Flex is highly motivating and fulfilling.
What are some unique or interesting aspects of your role that potential candidates might not expect?
The role is very varied. No day is the same in compliance and it’s a department where learning and developing takes place every day. Some incidents and queries are quite unique and fall outside of the ‘standard’ requests we may receive daily. Therefore this may require further research / knowledge to address the matter adequately.
Additionally, with the current government changing there are also a range of legislative changes that affect our industry, and it’s important to stay on top of these changes and stay informed on how it will affect our processes, internally and externally. This is interesting as it’s an ongoing commitment to ensuring we carry out our due diligence and continue working towards becoming the gold standard of compliance.
What are some company perks or benefits that you find particularly valuable?
Free lunch in the office is very valuable, a much appreciated perk that takes away the stress of preparing lunch every day and also saves money, which is always a bonus.
Denplan/Vitality is an invaluable perk and provides peace of mind.
Duvet days are probably one of my favorite perks for the simple fact that they’re well-being focused and I think they’re something not many companies offer. Being able to use them when in need of an afternoon or morning off, or to simply regroup, is great and makes the difference.
Does your role offer opportunities to learn and grow professionally?
Yes, every day is varied which provides ongoing opportunities to expand compliance knowledge, identify compliance gaps and be willing to address these even if no process exists. Our Head of Compliance is able to offer an expert view on a wide range of matters, and provide a perspective that I may not have had. This allows me to learn and apply this expertise in future when facing similar compliance matters.
